My name is Steven Horianopoulos and I am an educator. I was born and raised in Kitimat BC, which is on the traditional and unceded territory of the Haisla First Nation. I then undertook and completed by BSc Biology at UNBC, and continued on at UNBC to complete my BEd. The experience I had at UNBC as an undergraduate made it practically impossible for me to do my BEd anywhere else, I knew it was the right place for me to continue my learning. I think it’s wrong to say that I’m just starting out my journey as an educator, since every time you take a step forward in life, every time you learn something new, you become a better educator. My hope is that the things I’ve learned in the education program will both help me become a better learner, and a better educator. It’s important to be constantly learning, and my hope is that I can learn from my students as much as they learn from me. The topics most important to me are mainly centred around climate change, wealth inequality, and how these two interact. Looking at sciences through that very human lens creates opportunities for connection and understanding that I hope to bring to my classes.
